Doesn't time fly when you're having fun!

I can't believe that it's about two and a half years since I wrote my one and only post! Such a lot has happened since then, lots of rabbits have found sanctuary with Mammy and me, not to mention more ex-battery hens. It's great seeing them grow from almost featherless birds to happy girls, scraping about in the grass and "talking" happily to each other.
The wee calf, Danielle, mentioned in my first post, has become a Mum herself and Daisy (Granny) has had another calf; a boy this time named Blair.
There have been more orphan lambs rescued, Mammy staying up into the small hours, feeding and generally worrying over them. I just went to my bed.....well, a man needs his sleep!
Life on a farm is very varied, with lots of happy times and sad ones too. We had a lovely lamb called Rosie, a winner at the local Agricultural Show, who appeared to be in the best of health but who suddenly died. Mammy was very upset. Life goes on, however, and there are always little ones needing help.
We had a rescued hen who had an injured leg so we asked my Auntie and Uncle if they would take care of her till the leg healed. As they live in a town, they could only have one hen, and they called her Emily. She was a much loved girl, particularly fond of her Uncle and would follow him around the garden "helping" him. Emily's leg soon healed up but Auntie and Uncle decided to keep her as she was so happy with them. I will show you some pictures of Emily.
Now, I am hungry tonight so will have to ask Mammy for some food - mince? chicken? Salmon? oh, decisions, decisions.....
bye for now,
Domino

Introduction

Hello everybody, Domino here - nice of you to drop in. So you'd like to know about me? Why not! Well, I am a handsome, though I say it myself, cat* aged 6½, and I help my Mammy to run an animal rescue centre in Aberdeenshire. She wouldn't manage without my help, as you'll see as the blog progesses.
*although technically I am a C*T, I really think of myself as A MAN
Mammy is a farmer as well as looking after umpteen cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and budgies. She also rescues battery hens, has taken in ducks that were going to be somebody's Christmas dinners, and of course there's the geese - Gertrude, her three babies, Jimmy and his three wives - what a noise they all make! Sometimes, Gertie chases me, and I don't like it and hiss at her!
Mammy and I also have sheep and last year we got two tiny lambs, Teenie and Kelly. Teenie was a poorly wee soul when we took her in, but you should see her now! Mammy entered her in the pet lamb section at Banchory Agricultural Show last July and she came 2nd - said she didn't want to be first as the blue rosette she got matched her eyes! Kelly was first, so Mammy was really pleased.
All the animals that Mammy and I rescue are special, but one is extra special. She is a cow called Daisy. Mammy was at the Mart when she saw this poor specimen and nobody was bidding for her. Her fate was sealed - she would be going to the abattoir. Mammy has a soft heart and couldn't allow that so she bid for her, and as she was the only bidder, got Daisy. That wasn't the end of the story, however. Mammy arranged for her to be delivered to the farm, but waited and waited - no Daisy. Mammy got really worried and contacted the Mart where there had been a mix up and Daisy had been sent to the abattoir by mistake. We were beside ourselves and I told Mammy to phone this place and lucky for Daisy that I did as she was just about to be ........well, I won't say, but will leave it to your imagination.
You can imagine our delight when she finally arrived home, a poor scraggy creature, but a safe one. Of course, Mammy and I spoiled her rotten and she leads the life of Riley on the farm. We were delighted to discover that Daisy was pregnant and Mammy was on tenterhooks when it became obvious that the calf was about to be born. Mammy got up at 4am today to check on Daisy (I couldn't be bothered), but no sign of any calf. When Mammy went out at 6.10am, Daisy's baby was in the process of being born, and a few seconds later there she was - a fine heifer, so Mammy and I have called her Danielle, Dani for short.
Before I finish for tonight, I must also tell you about another wee lamb. He was one of triplets and a friend of Mammy's brought him to us as the mum couldn't feed him. Mammy has called him Jake, but to tell you the truth, I am a bit jealous of the attention he gets from her, but there's not a lot I can do about it. She's always feeding him, and saying Jake this and Jake that. What a fuss!
Next time I hope to post some pictures of me and the other animals we have rescued.
lots of love
Domino
